Fauna and Flora's original fabric presents a series of skirts crafted by artisans in Kyoto, who have honed their expertise over many years with dedicated effort. The shio-shrink fabric, as implied by its name, undergoes a shrinking process utilizing salt.
During the creation of shrunken fabric, yarn is initially woven flat on a loom. Subsequently, the fabric is immersed in saltwater or sprinkled with salt to increase humidity. While still damp, the fabric is manipulated, causing it to shrink, forming characteristic wrinkles and unevenness. This method imbues the fabric with softness, texture, and an attractive, distinctive luster.
In this iteration, only the cotton shrinks while the polyester does not, resulting in a soft feel with unique unevenness. Unlike the pants in the salt shrink series, this material is partially used, enhancing its versatility to pair with various tops.
